Artist's Description
An early morning autumn image of the Ozark National Forest captured from the top of the Hawksbill Crag, also known as Whitaker Point. This local attraction draws many visitors worldwide. Disney filmed the opening to "Tuck Everlasting" in this extraordinary location. A journey to the hawksbill requires a six miles drive on a dirt road via county road 5. There are two access points from county road 5. Depending on weather and road conditions, it's reasonably accessible with almost any vehicle. The trailhead is clearly marked and provides ample parking. However, the lot can fill up quickly on the weekends, especially during the autumn season. Indeed, it's common for hundreds of people to visit during the fall.
Throughout the brief 1.5-mile hike, you can expect many beautiful scenes, including a wet weather creek bed with a small waterfall. To fully appreciate the beauty of Hawksbill Crag, I recommend an early morning or late evening arrival. Also, make sure to plan enough time for a...
