Description
A sunset image captured from Hawksbill Crag in the Arkansas Ozark, also known as Whitaker Point. This local attraction draws many visitors worldwide. In fact, Disney filmed the opening to "Tuck Everlasting" in this extraordinary location. The journey to the trailhead requires approximately a six miles drive on a rough dirt road, but it's relatively easy to access with almost any vehicle. The trailhead is clearly marked and provides ample parking; however, the lot can fill up quickly on the weekends.
Throughout the brief 1.5-mile hike, one can expect many beautiful scenes, including a wet weather creek bed with a small waterfall. To fully appreciate the beauty of Hawksbill Crag, I recommend an early morning or late evening arrival. Also, make sure to plan enough time for a leisurely pace. As with any hike in the mountains, beware of the dangers associated with walking along the cliff's edge.
Whitakers Point is often sought out by photographers for its striking features and picturesque allure. Nevertheless, I don't feel any photograph can render justice to this epic vista.
