Description
An early morning image of Pedestal Rocks captured in the Arkansas Ozark. Located near the city of Sand Gap, this fantastic spectacle offers unique rock structures carved by the hand of nature millions of years ago. These rock formations, known as pedestals, run parallel to the bluffs along the Pedestal Rocks & Kings Bluff Trail. Hiking the King's Bluff Trail (west loop) will take about a mile to reach the area where I captured this image. However, viewing all the pedestals will involve trekking along both paths, which covers about 4 miles. Although it's not a difficult trail, I did have to climb over a few fallen trees. Also, be observant, there are many fissures and trip hazards near the ledges. I would not recommend hiking in the dark. In the summer, when the sun goes down, Pedestal Rocks Scenic Area is teeming with wildlife! On another note, the roads leading to the trailhead are paved but curvy. The trailhead is conveniently located just off Hwy 16 and has a picnic table and restroom. Pedestal Rocks is off the beaten path and offers an extraordinary adventure. It's truly a must-see for those that admire the marvels of nature!
